1. Scope
1.1 Requirements. This standard establishes the qualif­ cation requirements fr Hot Gas, Hot Gas Extrusion, and Heated Tool Butt Thermoplastic plastics welding inspec­ tion personnel; the requirements fr structuring the examination to qualif these personnel; and defnes the body of knowledge fr plastics welding inspectors. 1.2 Levels. There are three levels of qualifcation: Asso­ ciate Plastics Welding Inspector (APWI), Plastics Weld­ ing Inspector (PW), and Senior Plastics Welding Inspector (SPW). 1.3 Capabilities. No determination is made of an indi­ vidual’s capabilities in applying that knowledge within a specifc work environment or under actual working con­ ditions. Qualifcations fr individual capabilities are out­ lined within this document fr varying levels of welding inspectors. 1.4 Responsibility. It shall be the responsibility of the employer to determine that the APWI/PWl/SPWl is capable of performing the duties involved in his/er par­ ticular plastics welding inspection assignment. 1.5 Employer. This standard is intended to supplement the requirements of an employer, code, or other docu­ ments and shall not be construed as a preemption of the employer’s responsibility fr the work or fr the perfr­ mance of the work. 1.6 Safety Precautions. This document is not intended to address safty and health matters regarding plastics welding inspection personnel. Safty and health require­ ments are provided in MSDS sheets and OSHA recom­ mendations as well as other safty and health standards, and federal, state, and local goverent regulations. 3. Defnitions
The welding terms used in this standard are defned in A WS A3.0, Standard Welding Terms and Defnitions. Other terms used in this standard are defned as fllows: approved. Nondestructive examination is the act of determining the suitability of some material or component fr its intended purpose using techniques that do not afect its serviceability. A record of welding variables used to produce an acceptable test weldment and the results of tests conducted on the weldment to qualif a welding procedure specifcation.qualifcation.
